What is body contouring and is it right for you?

What is body contouring? Well for those who have tried numerous diets and exercise regimes that have struggled to achieve their desired results body contouring is a way to get the figure you want and get rid of that stubborn excess fat. It is also the term used to refer to the removal of excess skin after a massive weight loss.
If you have stubborn areas of fat that you have been trying in vain to get rid of then body contouring is a viable option. It may be the excess stomach fat that you struggle to lose even after you have been on a strict healthy eating and exercise regime or it may be some stubborn fat from the around the tops of the thighs.
Many women have that one or more areas that they would just love to get rid of. Well with body contouring this is absolutely achievable. Let’s be straight though. Body contouring alone is not the answers to all of your problems and should be used to compliment a healthy lifestyle. If you are using it as a “cheat” and don’t make any lifestyle changes to keep the weight off then you will end up wasting your money and putting it back on again. If you feel that body contouring could be the answer you are looking for then the next step is to look at the various types available and ask which one is the right one for you.

Liposuction

Liposuction, a popular choice with many celebrities, is used to treat the excess fat from the areas such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and upper arms along with other areas of the body where fat has been difficult to shift by dieting and exercise. The treatment works by removing excess fat deposits in these areas. As it is a surgical procedure the patient will receive anaesthesia before the procedure in the area that is being treated. Incisions are then made in the skin and a vacuum cannula inserted to remove the fat cells. Results won’t be seen for up to a few weeks after the treatment due to post-operative swelling but as long as the patient keeps up with healthy eating and exercise the results can be long lasting.
It is important to note that this is a surgical procedure and that the recovery time can be from 7-14 days. It is not a simple procedure that you can have done on your lunch break and should only be carried out by a qualified surgeon.

SmartLipo

SmartLipo is minimally invasive and uses a laser to break down the fatty deposits in the skin. It is particularly good on the lower abdomen, facial fat, thighs, love handles and upper arms. Again it shouldn’t be a substitute for a healthy lifestyle – it is used to compliment and shift that last stubborn bit of weight. The ideal candidate is people who are not excessively overweight but have that stubborn excess fat. It may be women who have had babies and struggle to get rid of that tummy or those that have lost a lot through dieting and fitness but struggle with the last bit.
Unlike liposuction, where the fat is sucked out through a tube, Smartlipo uses a laser, inserted into the skin, to break down the fatty deposits which are then flushed out through the persons system. The recovery period is the same as for liposuction and the same side effects are expected.

Ultrashape

Ultrashape is a non-invasive procedure which breaks down the fat cells that are then processed by the liver and flushed out of the body. There is no recovery time and no injections or incisions. The ideal candidate for this procedure is again those with those stubborn areas of excess fat and is used to compliment a healthy lifestyle – any results seen will last as long as the patient keeps up with their healthy eating and or fitness routine. The course of treatment is longer and requires more sessions than liposuction or SmartLipo and results are usually noticed after a couple of weeks.

The next step

If you have excess areas of fat that you want removed to give you more self-confidence and a body that you are more comfortable with then it is a matter of deciding which body contouring treatment is the right one for you. You don’t have to suffer with a body image that you are unhappy with when there are so many options available to you. Whatever you do you must make sure that you consult with experts that are qualified and licensed to deliver the treatments. If you are unsure then book an appointment and have a chat with a consultant before you take the next steps.
