Fraxel® is the original fractional laser treatment that works below the skin’s surface from the top down, addressing imperfections like fine lines, visible photo aging, wrinkles, scarring and age spots. Fraxel® light energy stimulates your skin’s natural collagen, rejuvenating skin cells below the surface to help smooth the creases and pockets that cause wrinkles and scars. Fraxel® only treats targeted problem areas. Fractionated Carbon dioxide lasers produce a beam of infrared light that can target the area precisely and results in no bleeding. Lasers, including carbon dioxide lasers, work by producing short pulses of a single wavelength of light. These pulses last less than a millisecond or one thousandth of a second. This light is extremely intense. It injures the skin in a specified area; consequently this injury causes skin cells to reproduce more rapidly to heal the injury. Deep Wrinkle improvement or acne scar improvement is limited because of the way (CO2) lasers work. They produce heat and to treat the deeper wrinkles or acne scars, more heat is required.
Anyone wanting to fix fine line and wrinkles, surface scarring, pigmentation, sun damage and actinic keratosis (AK).
Loose skin around the eyes, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, perioral rhytids which are the fine lines of the upper lip and lower lip, treat the entire face in order to improve the appearance of your fine lines, wrinkles, the skin tone, skin color, skin texture, and deep acne scarring.
Your skin’s natural rejuvenation process smooth wrinkles and scars by stimulating collagen for your softest looking skin.
Actual procedure time is between 15 minutes to 1 hour.
Usually results are seen in 1-3 weeks. You will see improvement with each treatment session. Several treatments may be required. Collagen build up takes up to 6 months to complete.
Final results of the Fraxel® laser are permanent.
Prior to the treatment, topical numbing cream is applied to the area being treated to reduce any discomfort. Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment and a prickling sensation. To minimize discomfort, cooling is built directly into the new hand piece for improved patient comfort. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours.
Fraxel® recovery can take as little as 3 to 4 days (for a lighter treatment) and up to 10 days (for a deep treatment). The type of treatment you will need depends on the amount of sun damage, wrinkling, and/or texture we are trying to repair. The recovery is not painful however the skin is pink to red and peels on the second or third day. Most patients are able to return to work by the 4th or 5th day after treatment. Although the skin can remain pink for 1 to 3 weeks (depending again on the depth of your treatment), but it is ok to wear makeup to cover up the redness.
Potential side effects include prolonged redness, swelling, oozing, petechial, delayed wound healing, and scarring, crusting or scabbing, infection from bacterial, viral or fungal agents, possible herpes reactivation and acne flare-up.
